Newsletter 2/2012
Friday 3rd February 2012
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Thank you to all our new parents who joined us last evening for the “New Parents’ Evening” in the Dave Mayo Centre; it was good to meet many of you and we hope that as the days go by we will get to know you better. And while thinking of new parents, it was a pleasure to have a group of mums down at the sports fields last Saturday cooking bacon and egg rolls and pancakes. Why not come along and support them and treat yourself to a good breakfast tomorrow. Thank you ladies for providing this service!
The cricket season is progressing well with an unprecedented turn-out of players which has resulted in two extra teams. Our junior squads, in particular, have produced some wonderful performances. Taine Brebner has excelled with the bat scoring well over 100 runs in three matches. May Mazibuko, Quinn Anderson and James Webb have continued to produce match-winning bowling performances. At senior level Lishen Reddy, Dillon Nelson and Damien van Jaarsveld have done exceptionally well with the bat. Congratulations to Josh Foster, Matthew Webb and Kyle Page for their selection to the President’s XI team.
Our U15s and 1sts play home games against Kloof tomorrow with the U14s and 2nds away.
Roland Pienaar continues to do well on the athletics field: recently he was placed first in the men’s 1,5kg discus final at Kings Park in Durban with a distance of 45,63m. This qualifies him for the SA championships to be held in March and we wish him well for this.
Congratulations to the following pupils who have been elected as captains of summer sports for this year:
• Girls’ tennis : Jess Melle
• Boys’ tennis : Richard le Roux
• Cricket : Kyle Page
• Swimming : Sarah Oberholzer and Ben Crooks
v/captains : Hayley Hodkin and Calvin Reynders
• Girls’ hockey: Leisha van As; v/capt: Thembi Dladla
Nokuthula Shezi is Interact’s president and Taraz Rawhani is president of Gavel Club for 2012.
Shirley Jensen heads up “Destiny” which is a Christian student-based support group who meets regularly, and they invite staff, parents and pupils to join them on the HHS tennis courts for prayer from 7h10 – 7h30 every Monday morning.
Letters were recently sent out for pupils who wanted to order items of jewellery from Jewellery by Design. The last orders were handed in today and we are most grateful to Mrs Ebersohn for co-ordinating this small fundraiser.
A final thought:
You can’t change where you started, but you can change the direction you are going. It’s not what you are going to do, but it’s what you are doing now that counts. Napoleon Hill
Yours sincerely
