NEWSLETTER 3/2010
Dear Parent/Guardian,
This newsletter is really a notice of congratulations and reminders. Congratulations to our whole first XI cricket team on their sustained pleasing performances, but also to mention some of the boys who have been playing for the President’s XI. Not only has this team beaten Westville, but in their most recent match against St. Charles it was our Howick boys who were instrumental in the victory. Ryan Stanbury took four wickets for 51 in his eight overs. Brian Kunst opened the innings and both he and Cody Mortimer (caught for 62 off 43 balls) added valuable runs. In the final over, seven runs were needed, and Brian Kunst scored two off each of the first two balls and then the winning boundary with three balls remaining. “An historic win by a composite side…(who) are likely to go through to the semi-finals” was how The Witness reported it. We are proud of you boys!
Well done also to a group of our pupils who participated in the S.A.Championships Mountain Biking. Good results were obtained by Tayla Brown (2nd), Emily Chalmers-Banks (2nd), Luke Dinkel (12th) and David de Backer (24th). At Menlo Park Athletics held in Pretoria Roland Pienaar obtained a 3rd place in U14 Discus, Sandile Mnikathi was 4th in 100m and Anleo Pienaar 6th in Javelin (a personal best with 50,09m), 5th in Shotput and 2nd in Discus. Congratulations to all of you!
This weekend we will be hosting campers and visitors to the Midmar Mile. May I take this opportunity of thanking all the parents (and especially Mrs Shireane Goodenough) for all the organization and offer of help at different times. We do appreciate it!
Thank you to all those who attended the evening last Friday with Shaun and Peter Pollock. It was informative, interesting and certainly inspiring, and the responses from those who attended were very positive. It was a privilege to host them!

We have a cultural highlight week to look forward to in March this year and warmly invite you to consider joining us:
Booking is now open for “Fiddler on the Roof”, a musical that will be staged in the Hall on the nights of 9th,10th and 12th March (with a matinee on 11th). Tickets are all R30-00 each and bookings may be made with Mrs Pienaar at the Front Office.
Richard Cock with a small orchestra and soloists Nic Nicolaidis and Vermarie Meyer present Lloyd Webber and friends in … ‘Love is a many splendid thing’, on 14th March also in our Hall, and then our pupils are in for a treat when they have a performance here at school on Monday morning. Attendance at the performance is voluntary as tickets also cost R30-00. About 120 of our pupils have asked to attend and payment should be made to Mrs Pienaar for this. We will be inviting pupils from other schools to join us and numbers need to be finalized soon as places are likely to be snapped up by others.
A final thought:

the next without losing your enthusiasm
